Called to Serve

It is an emotional time as you fill out your paper work and hit submit.  Then wait, and wait, and wait.

Then the day finally comes and your mom and your sister get it out of the mailbox and inspect it.
And even try and take a peak, but then they are good and set it aside and don't open it.
Waiting for Elder North to get home from soccer and two friends opening their call!
He finally got home and had to take a minute to inspect it himself.  Along with a letter that his sister Amber wrote him because she would not be home when he opened it and would have to settle for Skyping to be there.

Finally the time arrived, everyone was there and gathered around and we were ready to hear where he would be going and when.

First Mikel read a scripture.
And then he opened the call and read it...

 Dear Elder North:

You are hereby called to serve as a missionary of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. You are assigned to labor in the South Africa Durban Mission.  It is anticipated that you will serve for a period of 24 months.

You should report to the South Africa Missionary Training Center on Thursday, June 25, 2015.  You will prepare to preach the gospel int he English language.  Your assignment may be modified according to the needs of the mission president.

He was so happy!
Trying to find where South Africa is.

As his mom I was most surprised by the date.  All his friends were getting their calls and they were all in July so I really expected he would leave in July but his call was for June.  A week before his brother gets home from his mission.

After the opening everyone enjoyed talking and looking things up and having some food.
